Schenectady – Nancy Sanaye Payeur, 68, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday September 21, 2016. Nancy was born on February 22, 1948 to her parents, Hiroshi "Roy" and Aiko "Micki" (Miya) Kawauchi in Middletown, NY.
Nancy graduated from Albany Business College in 1968. On June 12, 1971, she married the love of her life, Arthur F. Payeur, and together they moved to Schenectady to start their family. She spent many years as a stay-at-home mom raising their four daughters and also working part time at Elmer Avenue Elementary School. In 1999 she started working at the NYS Office of the Comptroller, where she remained for the rest of her professional career.
Nancy had an incredibly warm, caring and friendly nature, often striking up conversations with any stranger who happened to be sitting next to her. She loved collecting antiques, frequently searching various antique shops and flea markets to look for new treasures. She enjoyed her yearly escape to the beach, visiting a different coastal city each summer with her family. Nancy expressed her artistic side by taking piano and guitar lessons and singing in her church choir. She especially loved spending time with her four grandchildren, Zoey, Elliot, Sophia, and Harper.
In addition to Nancy's husband, Arthur, she is survived by her brother Dave Kawauchi and wife MaryEllen (Raskopf) of Middletown; her sister Dianne (Kawauchi) Iwamoto and husband Ross of Huntington Beach, CA; her daughter Amy (Payeur) Higby and husband Bryan of East Greenbush; her daughter Jennifer Payeur of East Greenbush; and her daughter Kelly Payeur of Schenectady. She is predeceased by her parents Hiroshi and Aiko (Miya) Kawauchi; and her daughter Stephanie Payeur.
The family invites friends and relatives to visit Tuesday, September 27, 2016, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at St. John the Evangelist Church, 812 Union Street, Schenectady at 11:00am. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
