Mr. Lonnie Stephen Tomlin passed away on Friday, October 14, 2016 at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Lynchburg, Virginia on August 15, 1950, Mr. Tomlin graduated from high school in Richmond, Virginia in 1968 and then joined the U. S. Air Force, serving his country until 1972. He then attended Herkimer Community College and attained an accounting degree with honors. In 1977 he graduated with honors from Utica College of Syracuse University with a Bachelor's Degree in accounting. During college he helped prepare tax forms for VITA.

After graduating from Utica College, Mr. Tomlin worked for the New York State Tax Department, Department of State, and then the U. S. Treasury Department. He became a pension specialist and taught pension law in both Boston and New York. He went to work for Price Waterhouse Coopers and then to Milliman U.S.A. He also taught human resources at the College of St. Rose. During his long career, he had many business contacts and acquired many friends.

He was active in many not-for-profits. As president of Community Maternity Services, he served on their Board of Directors for many years. He was also on the Board of Directors of EBA dance company. A member of the Zonta Club of Albany, Lonnie often worked with the children and parents at Schuyler Inn in Menands. He worked hard to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association and earned a medal for donations collected.

On August 11, 1973, Lonnie married his sweetheart, the former Carol Clifford, in St. Peter's Church in Rome, NY. The 43 years they had together proved that Lonnie was an amazing husband and father. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol, and his beloved children, Jennifer Tomlin Price (Brian) and Christopher Tomlin (Kate). He is also survived by his brothers, David (Kristina), Patrick (nee Debbie Proctor), Ricky and sister, Wanda Batten (Denny). He has numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Lorene Tomlin and his brother, Randy.

When Mr. Tomlin was first diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, he spent his time helping others. He volunteered at the Samuel Stratton Veteran's Hospital. For almost four years Lonnie worked with the kindergarten class at St. Thomas the Apostle Elementary School. He loved the students who appreciated his dedication and knew of his love for the Yankees baseball team. Active in his church, St. Thomas the Apostle in Delmar, NY, he became a catechist and taught 5th grade religion. Later, he became a lector, a Eucharistic minister, and even went on to help others by joining the Rite of Christian Initiation Team.

Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 21st at New Comer Funeral Home, 345 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205. His Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Place, Delmar, NY 12054.
