Michael Peluso

September 18, 1956 — March 18, 2017

Albany-Michael Peluso, 60, gently disembarked life's journey on March 18, 2017 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, New York.

Son of the late Louis and Dorothy Peluso, Michael was born on September 18, 1956 in Brooklyn, New York. Desiring a country life, the family moved upstate to Dutchess County in the early 1970's where Michael graduated from Roy C. Ketcham High School in 1975. Immediately following high school, Michael was accepted to attend Syracuse University. While a student at Syracuse, Michael suffered a traumatic accident which caused quadriplegia. Yet, like a true captain, Michael took the helm of his life with great tenacity. He successfully completed years of arduous rehabilitation and continued forward, graduating from Syracuse University in 1983 receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Communication. Thus began his thirty year career as an impassioned advocate for the disabled.

Michael leaves behind his position as Senior Manager with the New York State Education Department where he over saw the 30 independent living centers, acted as NYSED's liaison to the New York State Rehabilitation Council, and was an Interagency, Legislative, and Community Relations Coordinator. He coordinated requests for proposals for various NYSED services, advocated, initiated and coordinated vocational resources for active duty service members, wounded warriors and all veterans facing barriers to employment. Most importantly, Michael was always an advocate for the disabled. Through turbulent and rocky waters, Michael sailed with his face to the wind.

Michael is survived by his two sisters, Louise Gerard and Dolores Peluso, both residing in Dutchess County; his three nephews, Jason Gerard, Matthew Gerard, and Michael Peluso; two nieces, Michelle Quattrociocchi and Destini Peluso, along with 13 great nieces and nephews as well as cousins who have all affectionately shared in contributing to the wind that directed Michael's sails.

Michael will be missed more than words could ever express.
