Albany — William A. Geiger, born May 1930, died Aug. 12, 2017. Survived by wife Jeanne Dempster, predeceased by his wife Dorothy of 48 years.
Our family and friends have lost a bright light in our lives with the passing of Bill.
Graduate of Vincentian Institute in 1947, retired from General Electric.
A devoted husband and father to six: Susan (husband Michael Sherwood, kids: Jessica Gagalardi (husband Nickolas) and Geoffrey Sherwood (wife Cara)), William (wife Karen, kids: Abigail Geiger and Victoria Geiger), James wife (Melanie), Daniel, Beverly (kids: Gabriella Maresca, Cameron Maresca and Trevor Nilsen) and Kenneth (kids: Stephen Geiger, Melissa Geiger and Christopher Geiger) and great grandson Cullen Gagalardi.
William and Dorothy raised their young family in Albany, NY till 1968 and moved to Hyde Park, NY for four years, then relocated to country in Rexford, NY in 1972.
William was always active in sports especially in downhill skiing, football, running events and with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed travelling around the US with his wife in their RV. Eventually settling down for the winter months in Florida. He was a great dancer and enjoyed listening to big band music. Christmas was a special time for him. He would bring out the Lionel trains and he would capture the year's accomplishments by etching them on personalized Christmas ornaments for the kids.
William loved to visit family and friends during his travels. His favorite place to be during the summer month was at his lake house on Great Sacandaga Lake.
He leaves us rich in memories.
The family will hold a celebration of Williams life at 4:00 to 7:00PM Friday, Aug. 18th at the New Comer Funeral Home 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie, NY 12205.
Mass will be held at 11:00AM August 19th at The Teresian House 200 Washington Ave. Ext Albany, NY 12203
Interment will take place at the family plot of the St. Agnes Cemetery 48 Cemetery Ave. Menands, NY 12204 following the mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in William's memory to Community Hospice Foundation at 315 S. Manning Blvd. Albany, NY 12208. In the notes section of the check include: Community Hospice Inn.
