Rocco C. Spinelli, 96, of Albany, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Albany Medical Center.
Born on April 1, 1921 in Palagianello, Italy. A son of the late Leo DiPierro and Addoloratto Spinelli.
In 1932 at the age of 11, Rocco arrived to the Albany area from Italy. He served in the United States Army during World War II. His careers spanned decades before retirement as an iron worker at the Local 12 Union, to then going on to retire from the Golden Cue Billiard Lounge. Rocco was an avid NY Yankees fan and loved to play cards. Most of all, Rocco was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who will be sadly missed.
Rocco married his loving wife, Angeline M. Gambacorta Spinelli; it was a loving union of 70 years until her passing in 2010.
Rocco is survived by his loving children, Arcangelo Spinelli, Bernard Spinelli, Leonardo Spinelli (Barbara), Rocco Spinelli (Kathleen) and Loretta Mellen (John); grandchildren; Dina, Nicole, Suzanne, Christina (Brian), Michael, Robert (Lee), Daniel (Yvonne), Amy, Rocco and Caitlin; great grandchildren, Julia, Angelina, Mason, Bobby, Lana Spinelli, Emma and Nicholas Sanvidge; also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Arcangelo LoSavio and Cosmo DiPierro; sisters, Antionette Hess, Grace Girzone and Mary Gisotti.
A prayer service for Rocco will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 8:15am at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, 12205, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9am at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville. Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 22, 2017 from 4pm until 7pm at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
