Rensselaer-Richard L. Hughes, Sr, 78, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 23, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 28, 1938 in Albany, a son of the late Willard and Marjorie Weatherby Hughes. Richard was a lifelong resident of the area and attended local schools.
Richard retired as a Diesel Mechanic from National Freight in Selkirk. He was an avid outdoorsman, was a friend to all and loved his family; he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Darlene Secor Hughes; his children, Sandra Jeanne Hughes, Dorothy Hughes-Warren (Todd), Richard L. Hughes, Jr. (Caitlin), Brian Hughes (Andrea) and Valerie Hughes; brother, Larry Hughes (Lynette); sister, Yvonne Elmendorf (Arthur); grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Richard will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at 1pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 353 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will be held prior to the service starting at 11am at the funeral home. Private burial will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, New Salem.
