Colonie-Anna Lee Piper, 92, died Sunday, November 26, 2017 following a long illness. Anna was born on May 12, 1925. She was born in Marlinton, West Virginia but grew up in Bay Shore, Long Island. She was the daughter of Charles Homer Stewart and Audrey Anna Stewart Reed. Anna was also always raised by her stepfather, Reverend Samuel B. Reed. She moved to Albany in her late teens and became a permanent resident. Anna attended Siena University for two years, where she studied Business Administration. Upon leaving Sienna, Anna was employed by the New York State Department of Labor, where she worked as a clerk for 46 years.
Anna is survived by her six loving children; Hillary, Hilliard Jr., Audrey (Leon), Russell (Shirley) and Andrea; twenty-one grandchildren, forty-seven great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 1, 2017, at Israel AME Church, 381 Hamilton Street, Albany, NY from 9:00am-11:00am with a service to immediately follow. Burial will be held at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, at 2:00pm.
