Thomas P. Smith

COLONIE- Thomas P. Smith, 87, passed away on September 29, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on October 15, 1930 son of the late Thomas F. and Helen (Tackney) Smith in Union City, NJ.

Tom was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. He was employed by Continental Can Company from 1948-1984 in 3 different cities, Paterson, NJ, Menands, NY and Malden, MA, before retiring to Calabash, NC. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with family, playing cards and visiting the Saratoga Race Track. He was an avid fan of the NY Giants and the Boston Red Sox. He will be dearly missed.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years, Joan (Grimmig) Smith, and sister Alice Barrett.

Tom is survived by his children, Dr. Thomas P. Smith, Jr. (Kim), Kathleen Lane (James), Timothy Smith, Terrence Smith (Mary), Marc Smith (Susan), Maryellen Rideout, Michael Smith; grandchildren, Megan Lowes (Sean), Thomas P. Smith, III, Sean Smith, Bryan Smith, Brian Lane, Daniel Lane, Nicole Taylor (Richard), Jennifer Robyck (Chris), Timothy Smith, Jr., Ryan Smith, Kevin Smith (Marie), Carolyn Smith, Frankie Smith, Andrew Rideout, Ronald Rideout, Samantha Smith (Mason), Shane Smith, Matthew Smith, Michael Smith; great grandchildren, Dylan and Jordan Taylor and Ella, Logan and Sadie Robyck; a brother-in-law, William Barrett and his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 9:00 am at St. Clare's Church, 1947 Central Ave., Colonie, NY 12205. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 from 5:00 - 7:00pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205. Interment will be held privately at Our Lady Star of The Sea in North Myrtle Beach, SC.
