Carlos Manuel Barrera passed away peacefully in his home on January 23, 2019 at the age of 92 surrounded by his loved ones. Carlos was the oldest of 8 children born to Coralia and Armando Barrera.
Carlos was a veteran of World War II having served in the Marines as a pfc messenger on the south pacific island of Iwo Jima. He loved his music, dancing, and spending time with his beloved family. Carlos was the proud owner of The Best Value Inn in Colonie, NY for 50 years. He was a very kind and generous man, helping many people throughout his life.
Carlos will be sadly missed by his first wife, Sylvia Politano; his brother Ralph (Onnie) Barrera and his sister, Linda Slosek; his sons, Tom and Robert (Mary) Barrera and his daughters Carla (Mike) Caisse, Rita Brink, Susan (Marcus) Mako, and Linda Koenig; his grandchildren Tammy, Tommy, Scott, Eric, Lauren, Katelin, Robert, Mike, Suzanne, Maria, Serina, Brandon, Ciara (Also known as Sister Teresita Maria), Davion, and Victoria; many great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Carlos is preceded in death by his brothers Martin, Armando, and Claudio, his sisters America and Carmen, his grandson Christopher Caisse and his great grandson Austin Carroll.
May God grant Carlos eternal peace and happiness.
The viewing will be held on Sunday, January 27 from 2-5 pm at New Comer Funeral Home located at 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie, NY 12205.
The funeral procession will begin Monday, January 28th at 8 am at New Comer Funeral Home with church service to follow at 9 am at Saint Clare's Catholic Church located at 1947 Central Ave, Albany, NY 12205.
