William L. Furbeck

William Lawyer Furbeck, my brother, my friend, passed away in the comfort of his home on November 8th, 2022 after a long struggle with Mesothelioma.

He was the son of Donald and Beatrice (Countryman) Furbeck.

Bill attended Schalmont SD. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and honorably served until 1969.

A quiet and no bs guy, Bill could say more in 50 words than most people say in 500.

He enjoyed driving his restored 1966 Dodge Charger to car shows and Cruise-ins, and he always had a seemingly bottomless cup of Stewarts black coffee with him.

For years, he was a foundry worker at G.E., and retired as a crane operator. A self-taught craftsman, Bill and long-time friend, Ernie Rau, built new, and rehabbed many houses, including his own and his daughter's homes. He was the owner/operator of his lawn business and ran it until a lung operation forced him to give it up.

Never one to give up, he only recently let go of his landscape trailer, always thinking some magical treatment would make him strong enough to work again.

Bill was predeceased by his daughter Kristy, as well his parents, his step-mother, Grace (Knolle) Furbeck, his mother and father-in-laws, Robert and Patricia Sullivan, his sister, Pat Alexson Smith, brother-in-laws, Harry Barron, David Sullivan, and Jack Smith.

He is survived by Terrie (Sullivan) Furbeck, his wife of 50 years, his partner, the mother of his daughters, and his caretaker who did everything possible to make Bill comfortable during his illness. He is also survived by his daughter, Courtney Furbeck (Jim Raczkowski), sisters Carol Barron, Laura Knolle (Tom White), and brother Dennis Furbeck (Kris Zielaskowski) as well as by sister-in-law, Deborah Sullivan (Bill Collins), Mark (Dana) Sullivan, Tim Sullivan, Scott (Rose) Sullivan and many nieces and nephews.

Donations in Bill's name may be made to an animal shelter of your choice. Minnie, a shelter rescue cat, was never far from Bill's side, thank you. Also, donations may be made to Patriot Riders, and all-volunteer organization of motorcycle riders that perform graveside services for our veterans.

Dad, I will cherish all the memories we shared. Although you were a man of few words, you always found a way to mix in some sarcasm which I loved. Your straight to the point ways were always intertwined with unconditional love. (Love, Courtney)

The family would like to thank Dr. Ronnie Luyun, Julie Huss, and Lisa Van Wormer and the rest of the staff at St. Peter's Hospital for their wonderful care to Bill.

There are not enough words to family and friends who helped care for Bill in his final weeks.

Graveside services for Bill will be held on Thursday, June 8th at 11:30 a.m. at Schenectady Memorial Park Cemetery on Giffords Church Rd. in Rotterdam. Family and friends are invited to attend.
