Sherman, Eloise - Albany. Eloise Sherman, 90, of Albany, NY, died at home with her loving family on Thursday, May 4, 2023. Born in Elizabeth City, NC, on September 17, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Miles and Louise Seymore.
Eloise was raised by her late uncle and aunt, Marvin and Mabel Abbott, from a young age until she left North Carolina for New York in 1955. She befriended the late Mary Booker of Albany, NY, while employed by the Albany Medical Center. Through this connection, she met her future husband of 62 years, the late Willie Sherman, of Albany, NY. Eloise declared that she would marry him at first sight, and they were joined in marriage just three months later, on July 5, 1957.
Willie and Eloise settled down and raised two daughters, Lovell and Willette. Eloise worked as a machinist for 20 years at the Watervliet Arsenal, constructing munitions on behalf of the U.S. Army. In their senior years, Willie and Eloise raised their grandson, Viamonte Sherman.
Famous for her home-cooked southern cuisine and fried chicken, she enjoyed bringing folks together and filling their bellies. A fierce gardener, she brought great joy to everyone with her sharp wit.
Eloise is survived by her beloved daughters, Lovell Sherman of Blacklick, OH, and Willette McKinnon of Columbus, OH; grandson Viamonte Sherman of Albany, NY; granddaughters Jasmine McKinnon and Quiana McKinnon of Jacksonville, FL; great-grandchildren Kirk and Korinn; brother Miles Junior Seymore of Mt. Poconos, PA and several extended family members.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023, at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205. A public viewing will be held from 10:00 am to 11am with a funeral services to follow at 11:00 am. Internment will be at the Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie, NY.
