Maureen Hanley Ferrandino

December 13, 1938 — June 22, 2023

Clifton Park- On June 22, 2023, our mom, Maureen Hanley Ferrandino, 84, joined her sister, Sheila, and son, Kevin (both of whom she missed every day) on her journey beyond this world.

Born in Roxbury, MA, she moved to Albany as a young girl and graduated from Albany High School. From early on to very late in her life, Maureen generally approached the day with a 'rules were meant to be broken' mindset. When we kids were young Mom went back to school to become a nurse, first completing her LPN and, years later, her RN, sharing a college graduation day with one of her kids.

Maureen worked nights for many years as an RN at St. Peter's Hospital Coronary Care Unit, for several years at Villa Mary Immaculate Nursing Home, and did home care, but her favorite job, where she practiced the kind of nursing she most loved, was as a Hospice nurse. At 67, she volunteered with the Red Cross for three weeks in New Orleans to help those devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Even at Teresian House, 17 years post-retirement, she felt responsible for the welfare of her fellow residents (you could tell by how she tried to boss them around).

Maureen loved Cape Cod, and her Boston accent would reappear as soon as she drove over the bridge. Mom was a good cook. She taught her kids to love the rain and thunderstorms and music.

Maureen is survived by her children, Dina Jameson of Ballston Spa, Joe Ferrandino, Jr. of Slingerlands, Nick Ferrandino of Albany, and Maria (RJ) Moore of Westford, VT; her grand-children Hannah, Emma, and Avery; her great-grandchild Everett; her sister Joyce (Daniel) Flanagan of Albany; many nieces and nephews; also former-husband Joseph Ferrandino, Sr. of Rexford.

Her sister Sheila (Robert) Cahill and son Kevin preceded her in death.

The family wishes to thank Teresian House 5th Floor staff for their compassionate and inclusive care of and friendship with Mom. We could always tell that she was loved, cared for, and valued as a human being.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial service on Monday, July 10, 2023, from 4-6 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY.
