Joseph S. Crandall Jr.

Joseph S. Crandall Jr., was called home to the Lord on November 27, 2023, doing what he what he loved most: riding his bicycle.

Born in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Joseph Crandall Sr. and Gladys Cath.

Joseph spent most of his life in Schenectady and had also spent some of his time in Portland, OR. Serving in the Army National Guard, he was a devoted patriot, carrying an American Flag with him at all times. He was a dedicated hard worker, who had been employed with Price Chopper for almost 20 years, and most recently employed with O'Toole's in Colonie. You could often find Joe throughout the Capital Region riding his bicycle. Joe carried his loyalty and kindness to his community, and was always there to lend a helping hand; he stood true to the saying "love thy neighbor." Living in his park community for nearly 15 years on Central Ave., Joe could be seen mowing lawns, raking leaves, shoveling snow and lugging garbage cans.

The rooms in Joe's home were filled with the things that he loved, his collection of Hess Trucks, M&M figurines, Simpsons memorabilia, and the unique items he would find during his travels. If you had asked Joe of his fondest memories, he would tell you of the times he had the opportunity to shake hands, not once, but twice with his favorite musician, Johnny Cash.

Joe leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved sisters, Sheri Lamb and Juanita Bowen; step-mother, Loretta Crandall; nephew, Russell McDonald; his nieces and nephew, Michael, Ashley, Brittany and Amber Bowen; great nephews, Quintin, Beau and Landon.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from 10AM-12PM, with a service to immediately follow. Interment will be held at Park View Cemetery, Schenectady.

Joe was known for his love of animals, especially cats. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joe's name to your local animal shelter.
