Click here to view Lawrence's ServiceLawrence (Larry) R Miller,86, passed away peacefully Friday May 3,2024 with his loving family by his side. Larry would always say the first thing he did every morning was check the obituaries to make sure he wasn't in it.
Larry was the son of the late Dever Miller and Mae Miller. Husband to the late Catherina (Kaye) Miller of 53 years.
Father to Douglas Miller and Jeffrey Miller; Grandfather to Kyle Miller, Zachary Goodness, Seth Miller, Emily Miller, Natalie Miller and Sarah Miller; Great grandfather to Zach, Ella, Jack, Millie and Mia; Brother to the late Dever (Bud) Miller.
Larry was born in Syracuse and right out of high school joined the Marine Corps. He then met Kaye in 1966 on a blind date and 6 months later they were married and heading to California.
He retired from the health department in 2003 and he and Kaye traveled all over, usually for bike races and would spend winters at their Florida house.
Larry was a machine! He was a boxer, swimmer, runner and later got into bike racing. Continued to race until he was almost 80 and then transitioned to enjoyable bike rides with his kids and grandkids where he would usually leave them all in the dust. He was a very involved father and grandfather, always wanting to help out in any way he could. As much as he loved biking he said he loved working out in his basement with the family more. At 82 he could still bench press more than one of his 27 year old grandsons. We won't mention any names. Everyone would get together in his weight room for a great workout before our big Sunday family dinners.
Larry will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He had a great sense of humor and hilarious one liners we'll be repeating for many years!
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday May 18, 2024 from 9 to 11 am at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, NY. Memorial service will follow at 11:00 am; concluding with a Graveside immediately after at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watervliet, N Y.
