ALBANY – Shirley Ann (Hallenbeck) Nieman, 81, died on February 16, 2010 at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. She was born in Albany on September 21, 1928. A recent resident of Boothbay, she was predeceased by her husband, Edgar Nieman, Sr. and her brother, Lawrence Hallenbeck.
Shirley is survived by her three sons, Barry Nieman of Albany, Carl Niemann and his wife Diane of Valatie, and Edgar Nieman, Jr. and his companion Sandy Bredeau of Stillwater; her daughter, Sheryl Frydrych and her husband Ted of Boothbay, Maine; and her sister, Rita Swetz of California. She is also survived by four grandsons, numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and her loving, loyal canine companion, Angus.
In her earlier years, Shirley enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing and crafting. However, she was especially proud of being a member of the Civil Air Patrol and kept a picture of the plane she flew as well as her wing pins. Shirley enjoyed and spent several years training and showing her AKC Champion Pomeranian, Heidi VonChiChi.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Saturday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Calling hours will precede the service from 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Guilderland.
