TROY – Selena York, 74, of Troy, passed away on Saturday July 23, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital.
She was born in Manning, SC and was the daughter of the late Johnnie and Annie Wallace. Selena was employed with Environmental Services at St. Mary's Hospital for 40 years, retiring in 2006. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Troy, NY where she served on the Usher Ministry.
At an early age, Selena accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Pine Grove AME Church in Greeleyville, SC. She continued her Christian education upon relocating to Troy, NY with Bethel Baptist Church, where she served on Usher Board #2.
A thoughtful, kind and caring soul, Selena was known for always putting the needs of others before her own. On December 31, 1966 she was united in holy matrimony to Blease "Buck" York.
Selena leaves to cherish her memory her husband Blease "Buck" York of Troy, NY, one son Michael (Takata) Felix of Troy, NY. Five grandchildren: Jamal, Kevin, Alexandria, Sheba, and Royale. One brother Andrew "Jack" Wallace of Troy, NY. Four sisters: Virginia Dickson of Troy, NY; Wilhelmina (James) Thomas of Freeport, NY; Hellen (Walter) Thompson of Greeleyville, SC; and Shirley (Jasper) Holmes of Myrtle Beach, SC. Nine sisters-in-law: Hattie York, Thelma York, and Estella Wallace of Troy, NY; Margaret York, Azalee York, Julia Mae York, Frances Hilton, Kate York , and Cynthia York all of Greeleyville, SC. One aunt Mary Lee Carter of Greeleyville, SC. Two godchildren: Kevin Ragins of Baltimore, MD and Kristin Holmes of Orlando, FL.
She leaves dear friends Christine Davis, Lily Dell Thomas, Mary Brady and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by
one brother Canty "Buster" Wallace and one sister Mary Wallace.
Funeral services will be Friday morning at 11:00 at Bethel Baptist Church, 5th Ave, Troy. Calling hours will be at the Church from 9 to 11 am on Friday. Interment will be in Elmwood Hill Cemetery.
