AMSTERDAM – Johnny Lee Mackey, 69, of Springfield, MA, formerly of Albany, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at his brother's home. Born in Bethune, South Carolina, Johnny was a son of the late James E. and Willie Inez Mackey. A graduate of Philip Schuyler High School in Albany, Johnny always loved working with children and teaching children about his faith. A member of the Al-Baqi Islamic Center in Springfield, Johnny at one time served as an Assistant Imam.
In addition to his parents, Johnny was predeceased by his stepmother, Beulah Mackey and his brother Karl Stover. Johnny is survived by his brother Jimmy Mackey and his sister Peggy Stover; his nieces Melissa Mackey, Almetta Treadway, Cassandra Stover, Delores Abbott and Carlissa Stover; his nephew Andrei Stover and his grandnieces Ebony Mackey, Melissa Canty and Itaja Stover as well as a host of friends, family and members of the Islamic Center.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 2, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Metropolitan NTM Baptist Church, Albany. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery immediately following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
