ALBANY-Bernard "Bernie" A. Lynn, 77, of Albany passed away on September 21, 2013. Born in Syracuse, he was the son of the late Joseph M. Lynn and Rose M. Deifieo and dear brother of the late Joseph M. Lynn, Jr.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 56 years, Julia Daniel Lynn of Albany; his loving daughter, Maureen Archard of Rotterdam; adoring grandchildren, Theresa Benedetto (Kevin Richard) of Waterford, Matthew Benedetto (Liz Carter) of Broomfield, Colorado, and Jessica Benedetto (Bryan Gannon) of Rotterdam; sisters-in-law, Mary Lynn, Imogene Echols (late Ross), and brothers-in-law, Everette Daniel (late Audrey) and George Daniel (Lois); and many nieces and nephews.
He will be remembered by his long-time friends, Henry Berben and Arthur "Bing" Cosby.
Bernie was a veteran serving our country for eight years in the US Navy Reserves and the US Army. He was a proud "Irishman" and an avid NY Giants & Yankees fan. He enjoyed getting together with family and friends to watch a good game. He was also a pretty good cook and was known for his meatballs and sauce.
Bernie retired from Albany County after 22 years of service in the field of traffic safety/STOP-DWI. He was a member of the Albany Elks #49 for many years, he chaired a great deal of committees, was House Chairman, a member of the Board of Trustees for 5 years, and he especially enjoyed volunteering to bartend for various functions. He served many years as a Committeeman for the City of Albany's 7th Ward.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Peter's Hospice Inn, Dr. David Palet and staff, Dr. Robert Quimby and staff, Dr. Filippone and staff, and staff from NYOH for their caring service.
Special thanks to Larry & Liz McCathy for all the dinners and support; and sister-in-law, Mary Lynn, and niece, Mary Jane McGuire and her husband, Jeff Vunck and nephew, Michael DeJulio for all their help and support.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie.
A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Friday at the funeral home.
A committal service will be at 1 PM on Friday at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
Bernie was always open to prayer in Jesus' name. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Peter's Hospice Inn, 315 South Manning Blvd., Albany, NY in memory of Bernie Lynn.
