Julie A. Lawton, 60, of Albany. NY, died December 29. 2013. Julie was born in Albany to John and Elizabeth (Hammond) Lawton. She was a 1971 graduate of Shaker High School and a 1973 graduate of Hudson Valley Community College. In 1997 she successfully earned the Certified Association Executive credential, which is the highest level of professional competency in the area of association management.
Julie retired in 2011 after 28 years as the executive director of the New York State Veterinary Medical Society. In 1991. she founded and was president of Lawton Management. Inc. Julie also served as president of the American Society of Veterinary Medical Association Executives and the Empire Stale Society of Association Executives.
She was a 12-year member of the choir at Blessed Sacrament Church and a 5-year choir member at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, where she was a frequent first soprano soloist.
She is survived by sister. Bettina: brother. John; nephews Joshua, Ryan, and David: a niece, Annie and her long-time companion, Frances Charles Brown. Having what she called "a high likeability quotient". Julie was blessed with many good friends in her fight with Multiple Sclerosis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday January 6th at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at 10:00 a.m. Calling hours for Julie will be Saturday January 4th from 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd.
