EL PASO, TX - Jaime Rivera Rodriguez, 88 of El Paso, TX and formerly of New York, passed away at the Sierra Medical Center on Thursday, January 9, 2014. Born in Guayama, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Pablo Rivera Rodriguez and Leonor Plaud Berrios.
Mr. Rivera Rodriguez was in the hotel / food service industry for many years. He was the Executive Steward in the 60's and 70's at many five star hotels including the Americana Hotel in New York City, the Americana Shoreham in Washington, DC, The Playboy Hotel Resort in McAfee, NJ and the Breakers Hotel in West Palm Beach, FL. He served with the US Army during World War II and Korea, and was most proud of his service in Korea when he was part of the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, and the 25th Infantry Regiment "Tropic Lightning" which were awarded the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.
He was predeceased by his wife, Juana Sanabria Laza; a son, Sebastian Rodriguez; one brother, Martin Rivera; and one sister, Audalina Rivera. Survivors include one son, Jaime Jr. (Christina) Rodriguez; two daughters, Helen (David) Burmaster and Shirley Ann Rodriguez; one step-daughter, Esther (Juan) Adrover; three sisters, Carmen, Petronila and Elsie Rivera; and one brother, Vidal (Naty) Rivera. Also survived by eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on Monday February 10, 2014, 2014 at 11:00 am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Interment will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. There will be no calling hours.
