TROY – Albert P. Marro, 83, of Troy, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Van Rensselaer Manor after a long illness.
He was born in Troy and was the son of the late Saverio and Petronella Cocozza Marro. Al served in the U.S. Army from 1948-1951. He had been employed for over 35 years at the Ford Motor Company in Green Island. In younger years he was very active in South Troy Little League and St. Joseph's Church. He was a lifetime member of Troy Elks Lodge 141. Al had also served as a Trustee and was recognized as Elk of the Year in 1978-1979. He was a member of UAW Local 930, Italian Community Center and the Emerald Athletic Club.
Al was predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years Mary D. Nicoll Marro and his son Joseph M. Marro. He is the father of Samuel (Christine) Marro, Michael (Colleen) Marro, Patricia Marro (Neil Clasen), Donna (John) Cannon and Andy Marro (Ann McGaughnea) and father in law of Laura Marro. He is the grandfather of Cassie, Michael, Julie, Karin, Andrew, Joseph, Johnathan, Jason, Brittany, Leah, Matthew, Lauren and Mary. He is the great grandfather of Maya, Kyra, Anya, Oneil, Gianna, Ian, Isaac, William, Elizabeth, James, and Jackson. He is the brother of the late Mary Perrotto, Virginia Botticelli, Michael, Anthony, Ernest, Joseph and Pasquale Marro. He is also survived by several brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Al's family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Van Rensselaer Manor. A special gesture of gratitude to the remarkable staff on A3 for all of their care and kindness.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, Troy. Calling hours will be Monday, from 4-8 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy.
