Albany – Louis S. Mele, 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday July 15, 2014 at St. Peter's Hospital following a long illness. Born in Gloversville, he is the son of the late Vincent and Maria Mele.
Louis proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was employed as a Radiologist at the Stratton VA Medical Center for more than 35 years, before retiring in 1996. Louis was a long time member of the V.F.W., K of C and N.A.R.F.E. He also loved to garden, chat with the neighbors, make meatballs, root on the Yankees and Mets and always held a special place in his heart for animals.
Louis is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Florence Mele; his children, Vincent and Debra Mele; his grandchildren, Louis and Natalia; his sisters, Grace Raucci, Emily Sorbero and Louisa (John) Ellingson. He is also survived by his best friend, Dr. Vincent Monaco; a host of nieces and nephews; and his two feline friends, King Louie and Zeus.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Louis on Monday July 21st at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Church, 16 Homestead St. Albany. Burial will be private to the family.
