SCHENECTADY – Ada Arendje Huybregtse, 93, passed away on Friday,
November 7, 2008 at The Dutch Manor Nursing and Rehab Centre in Rotterdam.
Ada was born on October 26, 1915 in Velsen, The Netherlands and was the daughter of the late Pieter and Geertrui (Demmers) Kok. She grew up in IJmuiden, The Netherlands. She married Willem (Wim) Pieter Huijbregtse in 1945. He was a POW under Nazi Germany and had been highly involved with the Dutch Underground. They immigrated to West Sayville on Long Island, with their daughter in 1955 and became US citizens in 1960. Ada was employed at the Sayville School District. They moved to Grand Rapids, MI in 1966 where Wim (Bill) passed away in 1976. In 1992 she moved to Syracuse and in1998 to Schenectady to be closer to her daughter, Robin and her family. She was a dedicated member of the Reformed Church in The Netherlands and in the US. She was a 14 year volunteer at the Metropolitan Hospital in Grand Rapids and volunteered at Community General Hospital in Syracuse. Ada loved playing the piano, corresponding and traveling.
Ada is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Robin H. and Allan Bentz of Niskayuna and her cherished grandson and his wife, Dr. Daniel N. Bentz and Heather Engle of Derwood, Md. She was also predeceased by her sister, Catharina A. Serowka.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the First Reformed Church of Schenectady, 8 N. Church St., Schenectady. Calling hours will be held at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. (Rt. 155-South of Central Ave.) on Tuesday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Rest Lawn Memorial Park in Grand Rapids, MI.
