ALBANY – Adele "Lena" Spano, 94, of Albany, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2006 at Teresian House. Born in Cervenara Italy, she came to the United States as a young woman and resided in Albany for most of her life. Mrs. Spano worked for the John DeBeer and Sons Baseball Co. both at the factory and at home for many years. She was a long time communicant of St. James Church in Albany. Lena was an avid vegetable gardener and a very talented cook. She was especially devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Lena was the beloved wife of the late Sebastiano Spano. She is the devoted mother of Sid (Peggy) Spano and Dominic (Josephine) Spano, all of Albany and the late Josephine Spano Calka and Frances Anna Spano. She is the cherished grandmother of Cheryl Ann Ryan, Deborah Piombino, Col. Stephen Spano, USAF, Peggy Ann Spano, Sandra Ann Rodriguez, Susan Jane Spano, Christopher Spano, Jill Ann Spano, Jacqueline Ann Spano, Daniel Andrew Spano, Anna Naylor and Joseph Calka. Also surviving are 23 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Lena was predeceased by her brother, Frank Ragosta and her sisters, Mary Clemente and Carmella Fedele.
Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 9:15 at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to St. James Church at 10:00 a.m. where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Teresian House, 200 Washington Avenue Ext., Albany, NY 12203 in memory of Adele Spano.
