NORTH STONINGTON, CT – Agnes J. Christiansen, age 95, died Sunday, August 28, 2011.
Agnes was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 28, 1916 to the late James J. and Sarah (Tucker) Nolan. She was predeceased by her husband John G. Christiansen and her beloved granddaughter Zoe. She is survived by her daughters, Candace Christiansen (Thomas Locker) of East Jewett, NY, and Madeline "Tucky" Christiansen (Preston Hensley) of No. Stonington, CT; and her son, Keith J. Christiansen (Jane) of Voorheesville, NY. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A devout Catholic, Agnes was proud of her Irish Heritage. She had wonderful memories of her young life in Brooklyn and Manhattan before WWII and never missed a chance to return to NYC for shopping and a Broadway Play. After moving to Albany in the early 1950's Agnes devoted her life to her family enjoying summer vacations in Sag Harbor and never missing the children's school events. After her husband's early death in 1970 she returned to work in the insurance industry where she enjoyed the company of her girl friends in the office and her dear friend, Grace Marsala. Agnes insisted on retiring at age 81.
Agnes had a positive and happy nature, a quick wit and never an unkind word. Her spirit will not be forgotten, she will be continued to be loved and greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A calling hour will precede the service from 12 to 1 p.m. Interment will follow the service at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.
