Alan Richard Rand

SCHENECTADY - Alan Richard Rand, 71, died peacefully on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Ellis Hospital, following a short illness.

Born in 1942 at Brady Maternity Hospital in Albany, NY, Alan was the son of the late Grenfell and Alice (Hoyland) Rand. He attended Bethlehem Central School District and graduated in 1962. He enlisted in the Naval Reserves and served his active duty on aircraft carrier, USS Lexington in Pensacola, Florida, receiving an honorable discharge in 1968.

Alan retired from employment in NYS Office of General Services in 2008. Following retirement he spent three seasons of the year at his camp in Piseco, NY, where he enjoyed listening to live music in the local bars, watching the lake, fishing and playing darts.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 47 years, Miranda (Daunt) Rand; his sons, Brian (Lin) and Gordon; his grandchildren, great-grandson, and his sister, Susan (Gordon) Garrett.

He will be greatly missed by his family, his friends and neighbors in Schenectady, and the many friends he acquired in the Piseco community.

A celebration of Alan's life will be held on Sunday, October 26th, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Parish Hall, St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 1229 Baker Ave., Schenectady, NY 12309.
