Albert R. Goodwin, 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at home with his loving family by his side. Al was the son of the late James Goodwin and Florence Goodwin.
Al was the devoted husband to Beverly M. Goodwin. They were happily married over 42 years.
He proudly served in the United States Air Force.
Al worked at IBM for over 25 years as a programmer and an engineering manager.
He enjoyed playing softball through out his life including the Saugerties SAA League, the Venice Senior Softball League and the West Albany Senior Softball. After his retirement Al was a private pilot and a flight instructor at Kingston Airport. He was a member of the Saugerties RC club, which led him to open Aero Hobbies in Saugerties, which he owned and operated.
Al was the absolute definition of a true gentleman.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother James Goodwin and his grandson Ryan Stanfield.
Al is survived by his beloved wife Beverly Goodwin; his children Cherie (Robert) Long, Cindy Lu (Richard) Beal, Christie (Edward) LaTourette, Alan (Debby Hinchey) Goodwin, step sons James (Susan) Bonacci, David (Elizabeth) Bonacci, step daughter Denise Bonacci Yannes. He was the cherished grandfather of: Nicole (Douglas) Sundheim, Bryan (Jessica) Beal, Heather Long, Alan Goodwin Jr., Brandon (Meghan) Beal, Anthony (Kara) Bonacci, Jack Yannes, Karin Yannes, Kristin Yannes, Kyle Bonacci and Emma Bonacci and 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-laws Beverly Goodwin and Adrienne Rudat and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, New York on Sunday December 4, 2022 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. A funeral service will follow the calling hours at 4:00 pm at funeral home. Burial ceremony will be at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery on December 5th 2022 at 11:30am with full Military Honors, all are welcome.
