COLONIE, NY – Albert J. Gunderman, 81, died Thursday, September 17, 2009 at his home, after a battle with cancer. He was born on March 28, 1928 in Albany and has resided in Colonie since 1958.. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1946 through 1947. Albert was the only child of the late Albert and Gertrude Gunderman. Albert worked for F & M Schaefer Brewing Company until their closing and retired from Albany County. He was a former member of the Garden Social Club and the B.P.O.E. in Albany. Albert was predeceased by his beloved wife, Avis A. Gunderman whom he married on September 6, 1952. Albert is survived by his loving and devoted children, Albert J. Gunderman, Jr. and his wife, Janice of Colonie and MaryAnn Ryan and her husband, Patrick of Guilderland. He is the cherished grandfather of Mary Keefe and her husband, James of Colonie, Michael Gunderman of Glenville and Patrick and Megan Ryan of Guilderland. Also surviving are his cousins, Herbert Leisenfelder, Madeline Futia and Richard Lewis and his brothers-in-law, Carl Shank and Franklin Kraus. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Albert's devoted caregivers, Michelle McKay and Ramon Rial who gave him the comfort and care he much deserved.
Funeral services will be Monday at 9:15 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to Christ the King Church at 10:00 a.m. where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The parish family of Christ the King will gather at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home for a service of prayer and remembrance. All are welcome. Interment will be in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Glenmont.
