Albert J. Mertz, 75, of Albany passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2017 with his loving family by his side.
A lifelong Albany resident, Albert was born in Albany and was the son of the late Albert Jacob Mertz and Helen (Sedlak) Mertz.
For more than 50 years, Albert was the proprietor of Shrub-Rite Landscaping. He was a dedicated and hard worker. A perfectionist that had a passion for the service he provided.
Albert was one of the founders of St. Joseph's Association for the Tridentine Latin Mass in the Albany Diocese.
He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
The devoted husband of Mary Thomas-Mertz, loving father of; Pamela Mertz, Patricia Mertz, Kimberly Mertz, Albert McGuire, Judith (the late Tod) Mulrooney, Stacey (Constancio) Andrade, Erin Thomas-Rexha, Emily (Matthew) Shoop, Teresa Thomas and Kelly Thomas-Mertz. Grandfather of; Anthony (Lauren), Meagan, Melissa, Brandon, Nicholas, Melena, Max, Benjamin, Besa, Olivia and JoAnna, and great grandfather of Cody.
Albert was the brother of; Mary (Mertz) Wirsing, Helen T Mertz, Margaret Helmes, Virginia Mertz, John J Mertz, Thomas P Mertz, the late Richard C Mertz, Robert J Mertz, Michael C Mertz and James F Mertz Sr. Albert was also predeceased in death by infant twins Anne and Vincent Mertz.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, on Thursday November 9, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
A Solemn High Requiem Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Jeffrey L'Arche on Friday November 10, 2017 at 9:30 am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 33 Walter Street, Albany.
Interment will follow the mass at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Rensselaer.
