GUILDERLAND – Albert T. Engel, 86, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2011 at Ellis Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Albert was born on March 7, 1925 in Albany and was the son of the late Harry and Laura (Schroll) Engel. He graduated from Albany High School where he played baseball. He served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1946 attaining the rank of Gunner's Mate Third Class and receiving the American Theatre Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Victory Medal. After serving in the Navy he graduated from Albany Business College.
Albert retired from the NYS Department of Tax and Finance in the late 1980's after many years of service as a Tax Technician. He enjoyed playing tennis, golfing, and fishing, but most importantly spending time with his family.
Albert was a member of St. Madeleine Sophie Church and a member of their Plus 50 Club, where he will be remembered for the wonderful dinners he made; a member of AARP Local Chapter 980, where he made the best coffee; a member of Sportime Tennis Club and a Life Member of VFW Post 762.
Albert is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Anna May "May" (Pazienza) Engel; his loving children, Thomas A. Engel, Michael L. Engel (Cathy), Roseann M. Czajkowski (Jan), Diane M. Vetrone (Joseph) and Sharon J. Foley; his cherished grandchildren, Lori, Carol Lyn, Thomas Jr., Christopher, Bryan, Megan, Matthew, Kristina, Shane and Jordan; his cherished great-grandchildren, Robbie, Ryan, Natalie and Mason; his brother, Arthur Engel (Dolores) and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Milo Engel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Madeleine Sophie Church, 3500 Carman Rd., Schenectady, all are welcomed to attend. Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 3434 New Karner Road, Colonie on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Interment will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
