COLONIE – Albert Henry Thompson, 68, of Colonie, passed away on Thursday April 19, 2007 after a brief illness. He was born and raised in Saranac Lake and was the son of the late Joseph H and Dorothy Canvin Thompson.
Al served in the US Navy from 1957 thru 1961 and attended test pilot school. He moved to Albany in 1961 and worked for Herzog & Hopkins Fuel Company. Al was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 106 for 33 years, retiring in 2001. He worked as crane operator for the last 14 years of his career. He was a longtime member of the Turnpike Rod & Gun Club in Westerlo. An avid hunter, he seldom failed to bring home a deer. Al also enjoyed trapshooting and trapshooting competition.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Elsa Nilsen Thompson; his daughters, Ruth (Gary) Persons of Ballston Spa and Linda Flynn of Colonie; his grandchildren, Whitney, Hannah and Joseph Flynn. He is the brother of the late Josephine Charland. He is also survived by three nieces and two nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday afternoon at 1:00 at Newcomer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Monday from 11 am to 1 pm prior to the service. Interment will be in Memorys Garden.
