ALBANY – Alberto Cannistraci, 85, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at St. Peter's Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Alberto was born on June 18, 1922 in Terme, Sicily and was the son of the late Giuseppe and Concetta (Cambria) Cannistraci. He served in the Italian Army during WWII. He married Frances Cuzzupé on February 9, 1946. He came to the United States with his family in 1963.
Alberto worked as a laborer for Local Union 190 for 20 years before retiring in 1982. He was a communicant at Church of the Holy Cross. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Alberto is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Frances Cannistraci; his children, Concettina (Michelino) Gitto, Joseph A. (Angela) Cannistraci, Salvatore (Maryann) Cannistraci, Angelo (Patricia) Cannistraci and James (Lora) Cannistraci; his grandchildren, Tina, Patty, Nino, Alberto, Sabrina, John, Anthony, Michael, Nicholas, Melissa, Olivia and Alberto James; his great-grandchildren, Nicolas, Giovanna, Michael, Isabella, Eva, Bianca and Sofia; his brother, Carmelo (Frances) Cannistraci of Colonie; his sister, Angela Saporita of Switzerland and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Maria Elacqua, Francesca Meo and Santa Mariorana and his brothers, Antonino and Santo Cannistraci.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Giuliano and the staff at St. Peter's Hospital for the loving care and concern they gave to Alberto.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to the Church of the Holy Cross where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Memory's Garden in Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
