Alexander Gorski

June 2, 1948 — January 18, 2014

Loudonville, NY - Alexander Francis Gorski, Jr, 65, of Loudonville, NY passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 18, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. "Big Al," as he was affectionately known by his family and friends, was born in Albany, NY on June 2, 1948. He was the son of the late Dr. Alexander F. Gorski and Kathryn Lavin Gorski.

Al was a graduate of Cardinal McCloskey High School. Following High School, he served in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in London, where he was trained in missile electronics. Upon returning from the service, Al began his extensive career in computers. He worked at Finserv in Schenectady, Information Integrators (a company he co-owned), General Electric, Compaq and Dell before retiring in 2010. As part of Al's job as a project manager he completed several computer installation projects in the NYS government offices, NYS Social Services, DMV, Albany Medical Center, and private businesses. Al's contagious smile and patience with the ever changing computer technologies were keys to his success. Customer service was his #1 priority in every project he worked.
Al was a lifelong fan of the NY Yankees and NY Giants. He coached several years in the Colonie Girls Softball league where he managed both league and travel teams. He was a member of the board for 4 years. In his leisure time, he bowled (yes, he had a perfect game); played golf, fished, built decks, assisted friends/family with remodeling projects and loved to vacation in Cancun where he made friends from all over the US over the 27 years he traveled there. For anyone who would listen, he always had a 'lesson' on the golf course. A round of golf with Big Al was never dull.

Al is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Jackie Rentz Gorski of 35 years, his cherished daughter and son-in-law, Tara and Matt Silvaggio, his loving sister and brother-in-law Alexia and Michael Ryan, his niece Kieran Ryan and nephew Devin Ryan. He is also survived by his cousins Brother William Martin, Carol (Tony) Kerigan, and Alexandra (Frederick) Gleason. In addition he is survived by his extensive extended family including his mother-in-law Florence C. Rentz, Kathy & Wedg Taylor, Anne & Mark Boger, Barbara & Reg Champagne, Tom & Joann Rentz and Maribeth & Eric Barrell. There was a special place in his heart for the nieces and nephews of his extended family: Jason and Justin (Andrea) Taylor, Christopher (Kirsten) and David (Mandy) Boger, Regina Piotrowski (Ryan), Deanna Champagne, Eric and Steve Rentz and Anna Barrell.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Al on Thursday January 23rd at 9:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 23 Crumitie Rd., Loudonville. Calling hours will be Wednesday January 22nd from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Burial with full military honors will take place at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at NYOH located at Albany Medical Center, with sincere gratitude to Dr. Makenzi Evangelist who provided excellent medical care, compassion and friendship.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to NYOH (New York Oncology Hematology) C/O Matt Gilchrist, 43 New Scotland Ave., Mail Code 7, Albany, NY 12208 or The Jack Rentz Scholarship Fund, Corinth Central School, 105 Oak Street, Corinth, NY 12822 or a charity of your choice.
