SCHENECTADY – Alexander L. Perryman, Sr., 67, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Gloversville on November 12, 1944 and raised in Schenectady where he was a lifelong resident. Alex was a 1963 graduate of the former Mount Pleasant High School. He retired in 2006 from the New York State Assembly where he worked for twenty-eight years. Alex was very devoted to serving his community and organized the Schenectady/Lincoln Heights Reunions. He was an avid New York Giants and Boston Celtics fan. Alex was predeceased by his daughter, Shelleen A. Perryman-Mitchell; his mother, Willa Mae Eccles-Perryman; maternal grandparents, Sandy H. Perryman, Addie Purvis and Estell Clay. Survivors include his wife, Shirley A. Jones-Perryman; his son, Alex Jr.; his father, Horace (Gloria) Perryman, Sr.; brothers and sister, Horace (Beverly) Jr., Jeffrey and Joan Perryman-Johnson; sisters-in-law, Chinissa Roberson and Odessa Mitchell; brother-in-law, Sylvester Jones of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Avery Mitchell and Alexis and Aliyah Perryman; great-granddaughter, Ah'rea Mitchell and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. at the Friendship Baptist Church, 409 Union Street, Schenectady. Calling hours will precede the service from 11:00 to 12:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in Schenectady Memorial Park, Rotterdam. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Ellis Hospital Foundation, 1101 Nott St., Schenectady, NY 12308 or Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12308 in memory of Alexander L. Perryman, Sr.
