Alex Skriptshak, 86, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on March 4, 1936 in Tiflis, Russia (now known as Tbilisi, which is located in the former Soviet republic of Georgia). In 1940, he and his mother were brought to Germany by the Nazis and placed in a concentration camp, where they spent four years. In 1950, they were sponsored by Church World Service and came to America with his mother and stepfather.
Alex attended grade school in Waterford, and then High school in Cohoes. After high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, where he spent three years on active duty working as a jet mechanic. After his discharge, he worked at Behr Manning, Western Electric, Delaware and Hudson RR and Amtrak, where he retired from in 1998. He loved many sports, but enjoyed playing tennis the most.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy; his sons, Michael Skriptshak, Mark Skriptshak (Stephanie Perry), both of Rensselaer, and Daniel Skriptshak (Carolin) of Troy; his daughter, Sandra Schnapp (fiancé, Thomas Reed) of Watervliet; step-daughter, Daphne Chan (partner, David Bradford) of Boston, MA; four grandsons, Michael Schnapp (Kristin), Matthew Schnapp (Amanda), Austin Schnapp (Jacqueline), and Brian Beck; and two granddaughters, Courtney and Kristen Skriptshak. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren, Avia Peek, Rylan Schnapp, Hayes Schnapp and Kaia Jo Schnapp.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Monday, July 11, 2022 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie NY 12205. On July 12, 2022, we will be meeting at St. Clare's Church, 1947 Central Ave., Albany NY, 12205, for a Funeral Mass which begins at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 983 Watervliet Shaker Rd, Albany, NY 12205.
