Schenectady- Alfred W. Stutz passed away September 23, 2018 at Kingsway Nursing Center.
A lifelong Albany area resident, Alfred was the son of the late Otto and Anna Haug Stutz and beloved husband of the late Hildegard Flemming Stutz.
Alfred enlisted in the US Navy and served as a Seabee in Okinawa during World War II. After returning to Albany, he worked for the Albany Police Department, first as an officer, then as radio dispatcher. He worked for the NYS Thruway for 32 years, retiring in 1986 as Communications Supervisor. Al was a member of Associated Police Communications Officers (APCO). He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Albany. There he served for many years on the property committee and, with Hildegard, was active in the Couples' Club. He was a member of the American Legion for over 70 years. Al enjoyed working on handyman projects around the house and was an avid train enthusiast.
He is survived by his daughters Karen (Kenneth) Bingham of Voorheesville, Robin (Christopher) Blais of West Sand Lake, and Kim (Gardner) Gurney of Altamont. Also survived by 7 grandchildren, David Bingham, Lydia (Casey) Gray, Stephen Bingham, Connor Blais, Sarah Gurney, Rachel Gurney, and Caitlin Gurney; and one great-grandson, Zen Blais.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205, on Saturday, October 6, 2018 from 10:00a,-12:00pm with a service to immediately follow. Burial will be held at Memory Gardens, Colonie, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Alzheimer's Association, American Diabetes Association or a charity of your choosing.
