Alfred Woodard, Jr. (Woody), 77, of Albany, NY, departed this life after a long illness, on Saturday, September 25, 2010. He was born in Shibuta, Mississippi, on June 29, 1933, the first son of the late Alfred Woodard, Sr. and Leola Woodard.
Alfred was educated in the Albany public school system and served in the army during the Korean War. He was a truck driver, employed by Clark's Trucking and the ANSWERS plant. A member of the local Teamsters union, Alfred loved driving that 18-wheeler. A lifelong member of Wilborn Temple COGIC, he sang in the Men's Choir and served as driver for both the pastor and the Sunday school bus.
A passionate man, Alfred embraced life to the fullest. He was a jazz enthusiast who loved classic films and cartoons. Above all, he was a devoted family man, a loving husband and father.
Alfred will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 57 years, Dorothy E. Woodard; four daughters, Charlayne Woodard, Lisha Anderson, Allaine Woodard and Jolene Boston; son, Alfred D. Woodard; grandson, Nala Woodard; sisters, Girlie Mae Ferguson, Oceanna Burkhalter, Pauline Walker, Ann Stanfield, Emma Dickson, and brother Walter Woodard. His brother, Paul Woodard, preceded him in death.
Alfred will also be lovingly remembered by his mother-in-law, Grace Harris; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Clay, Rosa Mae Harris, Rebecca Harris and Dolores Woodard; brothers-in-law, William Harris and John Burkhalter; sons-in-law, Robert Anderson, Alan Harris and Michael Boston; daughters-in-law, Nina Woodard and Gianna Woodard; ten grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be at Wilborn Temple C.O.G.I.C. at 11 AM on Saturday, October 2nd. Calling hours will be from 9–11 AM. Interment will be held immediately after at Evergreen Memorial Park, 2150 Central Avenue, Albany, NY 12205.
