Allan Birkett, 62, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2017 loved life and adored his family. The Republic of Birkett consists of his bride of 42 years, Loretta (Sullivan), his pain in the butt kids Allana (James) Layman, Timothy (Rebekkah) Birkett. The pure apples of his eyes were his grandchildren: Briana, Karlie, Callan & Tristan. Allan is also survived by his brother William (Judy) Birkett, his sister-in-law, Lorna (Stan) Sweet and 4 nieces. Allan was born in Oneonta, NY; and predeceased by his parents Cardell & Marion Birkett.
Allan began his banking career in 1977 with Manufacturers Hanover, survived many mergers; finally, retired in 2012 from TD Bank.
Allan committed many hours and years to charities very close to his heart: Junior Achievement, Board Member with Special Olympics, Community Reformed Church; and, participated in many walks, golf tournaments and galas.
Allan enjoyed being a Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 22, and was proud when his son became an Eagle Scout in 1998. Allan received the highest Twin Rivers Council recognition, the Silver Beaver Award in 2012.
Allan was a diehard Giant's fan; and enjoyed traveling, golfing, gardening, Camp Joy Haven, and most especially spending time with his family and friends.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, NY. Allan would want you to come, share a special memory, funny story, and celebrate his life on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Memory Gardens.
