NISKAYUNA – Allan J. Bentz, 63, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2009.
Al was born on July 30, 1946 in Niskayuna. He was the son of the late Louis and Michelina (D'Alessandro) Bentz. He was an electrochemist, electrical engineer, entrepreneur, inventor and baker. He moved from Syracuse to Schenectady in 1995 in order to care for his father. He subsequently founded the Ridvan Bakery with his wife Robin.
Al was inquisitive, innovative and highly creative. His interests included scientific invention, the art of baking, and love of family, all of which he expressed with humor and humility.
Al is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 41 years, Robin Huybregtse Bentz of Niskayuna; his son, Dr. Daniel N. Bentz and his wife, Heather A. Engle and their daughter, Caitlyn E. Bentz all of Rockville, Md.; his sister, Darlene Hall of Farmingville, NY; his aunt, Anne D'Alessandro of Colonie and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, 2150 Central Ave., Colonie. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
