ALBANY - Allen Dwight Martin, 67, entered eternal rest on Monday, March 5, 2012 at St. Peter's Hospital Hospice Care surrounded by his loving family.
Allen was born on September 14, 1944 in Redwood, Mississippi to the late Allen and Lucille J. (Smith) Martin. Allen was raised in Albany, NY and attended the Albany Public School system graduating from Philip Schuyler High School in 1963. During that same year, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1967 as an Administrative Specialist.
He was employed as a conductor for Conrail and later for Amtrak where he worked for 25 years before retiring in 2003.
Allen is survived by his loving children, LaMarr, Donya, Terrill, Steffon and Ericka; his sisters, Lucy Ann (James) Bouldin and Brenda L. (Gregory) McNeal; his brother, Stanley E. Robinson; his grandson, Xavier E. Martin; his aunts, Lucy P. Reed (Albany) and Lula Mae Hill (Chicago), and several nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives. He was predeceased by his wife Yvonne (Nedd) Martin and his brother Bruce D. Robinson.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Walls Temple AME Zion Church, 27 Delaware St., Albany. Calling hours will precede the service from 9 to 11 a.m. on Monday at the Church. Interment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
