Schenectady- Alphonse G. Mangold, 61, (Big Al, a kind and generous fellow) passed away Sunday December 14, 2008 at Ellis Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born in Albany and was the son of the late George and Mildred (Molly) Messerle Mangold. Al served in the US Army active duty in the Vietnam War. He worked many years for New York State Office of General Services. Al enjoyed spending time with his cherished family and was an avid fan of music.
He is survived by his wife, Maryellen Fitzmaurice Mangold; his children, Eric (Amanda) Mangold, Julia Mangold and Matthew Mangold; his siblings, Alberta (David) Phipps, Mildred (Bernard) Powers and Mary Pfeiffer (Dieter Hammer). He is also survived by several brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday afternoon at 1:00 at St. John the Evangelist Church, Schenectady. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave).
