Albany- Alton "Ricky" Jenkins of Albany, N.Y. passed away Wednesday April 27,2016 at the Stratton V.A. Hospital after a long battle with his health.
Born in Raleigh, North Carolina on June 4, 1947 Ricky the son of the late George A. & Betty G. Jenkins., well known as "CatMan" resided in Albany for over 50 years. Throughout his high school years, he was acknowleged for his athleticism in both football and basketball in Albany High. Ricky graduated from Albany High's "Class of 1966". Following high school in the fall of 1966 Ricky was enlisted into the U.S. Army. He served as a private in the Vietnam war until the fall of 1968, at which time he was honorably discharged and returned to Albany.
Ricky enjoyed being a homebody and hanging out with good friends and family. His favorite past times included cooking, watching sports, classic movies, and television shows such as Jeopardy. Though Ricky had no children of his own he has always been an asset to the children who grew up around him, providing care and protection to his loved ones. Ricky was a man who possessed a "Heart of Gold". He will be missed dearly by those who were fortunate enough to have known and loved by him.
He leaves to mourn surviving sisters: Betty Sue of Augusta, G.A. and Florence of Albany, NY; brothers: Louie and Stevie; God brothers: Eric White and William Robinson; God Sister Patricia Blunt-Bey of Albany, Aunt: Janet Williams, as well as a large host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
