Alvin Andrew Foy, Sr., 73, of Albany, New York, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 2, 2011 in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Alvin or "Big Al" was born to the late John Henry, Sr. and Harriett Empsey Foy on October 13, 1937, in Halifax, Virginia. He was educated in the Halifax school system until he moved to Albany, New York.
Alvin worked for various elevator companies through out his career with the International Union of Elevator Contractors. Soon after Alvin came to Albany he met his soul mate the late Barbara Foy. They were married on July 17, 1960. Born of this union were four children: Robin, Michelle, Saberina and Alvin Jr.
Alvin leaves to cherish his memory through his four children, Robin A. Foy-Coleman, Michelle (Claxton) Wilson, Saberina (Alex) Ballard, and Alvin A. (Michelle) Foy, Jr.; niece, Kyla S. (Peter) Douglas; brother, John Henry (Arlene) Foy; two sisters, Harriett Sue (William) Chalmers and Nevern Empsey (Gerald) Smith; brother-in-law, Larry Seymour (Nikkie) Kittell; sister-in-law, Zelda (Pleasant) Foy. Rejoicing in Heaven with him are his father, John Henry Foy, his mother, Harriett Empsey Foy; three brothers, Myron Hayes Foy, George Allen Foy, and Rev. Pleasant J. Foy; two sisters, Phebe Ann Foy and Annie Bell Foy; father-in-law, Luther Johnny Kittell; and mother-in-law, Lillian Elizabeth Kittell. He also leaves 12 grand children and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Walls Temple A.M.E. Zion Church, 27 Delaware Street, Albany. A calling hour will precede the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Interment Memory Gardens in Colonie.
