Alvin E. Kershaw, Sr., 76, passed away Monday May 18, 2009 at St. Peter's Hospital.
Born in Florence, South Carolina he was the son of the late Frederick Allen and Cleo Kershaw, Sr. He served in the US Army from 1948 to 1955, worked as a forklift foreman at the Watervliet Arsenal and then with New York State Department of Social Services retiring in 1996. He enjoyed bowling and fishing and was a devoted family man.
Alvin is survived by his beloved children: Patricia Vann, Alvin Kershaw, Jr., Janie Green, Sabrina Kershaw and Shannon Word, cherished grandchildren: Mike and Jason Vann, Monique and Alvin Kershaw III, Sahtise and Synetta Green, Dexter Clark, Jr. and Janai Murray, many adored great-grandchildren, brother Fred Allen Kershaw, Jr., niece Priscilla Homes and loving friend Deborah Landy.
Funeral services will be Friday 11:30 am at Union Missionary Baptist Church, 3 Morton Ave., Albany, NY. A calling hour will precede the service from 10:30 am to 11:30 am at the church.
