COLONIE-Alvina H. White, 80, of Colonie, passed away on Wednesday January 13, 2010 at her residence.
She was born in Albany and was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Alvina (Ernst) Houghtaling Sr. Alvina was predeceased by her husbands, Otis Thatcher and Phillip T. White, her daughter, Mary Ellen (White) Strama, and her beloved grandson, Jared Boehlke. She retired from the NYS Department of Social Services. Alvina was an active member of her church parish and a past President of the Bethlehem Elks Ladies Auxiliary. In recent years she was a volunteer at the Regional Food Bank. During her retirement she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and traveling with her friends.
Alvina is survived by her daughters Leslie (Larry) Alfred-Fuld of Colonie, Bette Jean (Kevin Neary) Boehlke of Glenmont and her son Philip (Sharon) White of Guilderland. She is also survived by her brother Charles (Anne) Houghtaling and her sister Barbara (Harold) Van Schoick.
In addition she is survived by her grandchildren, Bill (Mary) Boehlke, Heather Boehlke, Martine Strama, Pamalla White, P.J. White, Justin Fuld, Jessica Fuld, Devin Fuld, Taylor Fuld, Cassidy Fuld, her great-granddaughter, Coral May Boehlke, and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Sunday afternoon from 1:00 to 4:00 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie, immediately followed by a short Memorial service. Interment will be in the spring at Holy Spirit Lutheran Cemetery, Glenmont.
