SCOTIA - Amanda "Mandi" Bell died peacefully April 6th in Schenectady, NY after a long illness. She was 55 years old. She was surrounded by family and friends as her life on this planet came to a close. She is survived by her sister Virginia Lockwood and her husband Vern, her sister Cari and her husband John, her nephew Ryan, and her cherished cat Stella.
Mandi was born in Ballston Spa, NY. She lived with her family in Scotia, NY for many years and also in Sonoma, California from 1985-2000. Mandi graduated from Oswego State in 1978. She was an accountant by profession and worked for CHP in Albany, NY as well as Bali Fabrications in Sonoma, CA. She enjoyed painting ceramic flower pots and vases and tending to her houseplants. She loved animals.
Mandi's illness prohibited her from doing things in life that she would have enjoyed doing. But, she always tried to be cheerful and accepted that she could only do what she was able to. She was a wonderful sister, aunt and friend. The world is a little darker without her light. The family would like to thank so many people in Mandi's life who gave her the will to go on. Barbara Jenner was a lifetime friend who kept Mandi in the loop of life and made her laugh. Her caregiver Ann gave her the dignity and exceptional care that she so deserved and appreciated. Ann was like a sister to Mandi. Denise gave Mandi both physical therapy and the hope to keep going. She was a special friend and called Mandi a "warrior". Judy took tremendous care of Mandi in earlier years and always tried to give her a positive outlook.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Ellis Hospital ICU for the amazing compassion and care they gave to both Mandi and her family and friends during this sad time. Words are not enough. If you have a special memory of Mandi, please hold it in your heart. Mandi would not want us to be sad but of course we miss her and always will.
No services will be held. Donations in Mandi's memory may be made to the Animal Protection Foundation, 53 Maple Ave., Scotia, NY 12302.
