ALBANY, NY – Amelia Philomena Schillaci, 80, died on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at St. Peter's Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Born in Albany on December 23, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Carlo Pinto and Margherita Urbanucci Pinto. Mrs. Schillaci was a homemaker and mother of three, also working for a time for the Little Sisters of the Poor Nursing Home. She retired from Albany High School after working many years in the cafeteria, especially enjoying the time she spent with the teachers and students. Mrs. Schillaci was a longtime parishioner of St. Patrick's Church in Albany. Amelia is the beloved wife of 59 years to John Schillaci. She is the devoted mother of Margaret (Bruce) Levitch of Gilbert, AZ, Joseph (Arlene) Schillaci of Colonie and Maria (Richard) Brown of Albany. She is the cherished grandmother of Bryan Levitch of Gilbert, AZ, Erik Levitch of Chicago, IL, Alexandra, Kaitie and Dianna Schillaci of Colonie, Melissa Brown of Albany and Carin (Michael) Sawyer of Schenectady. Amelia is also survived by her sister-in-law, Rose "Sissie" (Walter) Frisbee, whom she raised from the age of seven. Also surviving are three loving great-grandchildren and several beloved nieces and nephews. Amelia was predeceased by her siblings, Mary Stravatta, Jenny DeCroce, "Miff" Gregory Pinto and "Nell" McKenna. The family expresses sincere appreciation to the clergy and the nursing and administration staff of St. Peter's Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care and many kindnesses.
Funeral services will be Monday morning at 8:30 at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to Holy Family Parish, (formerly St. Patrick's Church) at 9:30 am. where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern NY, 965 Albany Shaker Rd., Latham, NY 12110 or the Arthritis Foundation Northeastern NY Chapter, 1717 Central Ave., Suite 105, Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Amelia P. Schillaci.
