Aminta Delestre

Aminta Delestre has gone to eternal rest after a long illness. She was the daughter of Angelica Lamberty and Isaac Delestre of Mayaguez, PR. She is survived by her sons Richard K. Montes of Watervliet. and Carlos Montes and his wife Irina of Troy and grandchildren Calvin, Elaine, andViktor; and also by her son Hilton Montes Jr. and his wife Miriam of Wesley Chapel, Fl and grandchildren Jessica and Bryan. She is also survived by her brother Ramon I. Delestre and Miriam "Nancy" of Cabo Rojo, PR, niece Barbara Delestre and family, and nephew Ricardo Delestre. She is further survived by her niece Diana, daughter of her late brother Cesar Delestre; as well as many friends whom she considered family.

Aminta had an MPA and BA in Education. She was a former Director of Head Start City of San Juan, Puerto Rico and a valuable contributor to Hispanic Services in the NYS Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. In addition, she was a consultant for several federal agencies. She was a fierce believer in education as a way to grow as an individual and a professional, and also believed in people and their potential; a consummate educator with love in her heart for all she met.

Aminta's maternal grandparents were extremely influential in her early life, nurturing her love of nature, classical music, literature, and language. She was an elegant woman of great courage, intelligence and dignity who shared her gusto for life with everyone.

At her request, there will no public memorial services. The family requests that instead of flowers, donations be made to the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Blvd. Rensselaer, NY 12144.
