Amos Sorel

Amos F. Sorel passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 5, 2015 at the age of 91.
Amos was born on June 15, 1923 to Amos B. Sorel and Trudore (Pitrin) Sorel in Watervliet NY although he lived most of his life in Albany. He was married to his sweetheart Edith (Bogart) Sorel for 64 years. They are the proud parents of eight children: (predeceased) Amos (Rosemary) of Albany, William (Linda) of Voorheesville, David (Donna) of Rensselaer, Ronald (Virginia) of Rensselaer, Julianne (Jay) LeBarron of Pittstown, Cecile (John) of Altamont, Michele (Paul) Warrick of Norman OK, and Christina (Kurt) Hoegemann of Delmar. They were blessed with 20 grandchildren and 8 great-grand-children.
Amos attended Hackett Middle School before he decided to enlist in the U.S. Army where he proudly served from 1940 through 1946. He received World War II commendation for participation in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign, specifically Luzon, the Northern Solomons, and Guadalcanal.
Amos began his work career as a union carpenter and later was employed by the NYS Health Department as a cabinet maker. His passion for carpentry continued though retirement when he actively participated in family projects ranging from building picture frames to houses.
Amos was an enthusiastic outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, boating, fishing and hunting. He was an active member of the Turnpike Rod and Gun Club. However, his favorite pastime of all was bowling. He engaged in this sport twice weekly up until the end of February.
Funeral services will be held at the New Comer Funeral Home on Sunday, April 12 from 1-3.
