Albany- Andre Frank Verreau, 94, passed away April 10, 2025. Born in Norwich New York to the late Margaret Hanley Verreau and Edwin F Verreau Esq.
Andre graduated from St James Elementary School and St Joseph’s High School in Albany, N.Y.
After high school, Andre passed up an opportunity to attend the University of Notre Dame to join the United States Army.
On December 11, 1950, Andre enlisted in the United States Army Reserve (Active Status). He received an Honorable Discharge from the Army of the United States on December 10, 1953, as a Private First Class. On December 11, 1953, Andre re-enlisted in the United States Army Reserve (Active Status). He received an Honorable Discharge from the Army of the United States as a Sergeant on September 30, 1961, with a total of 11 years served.
Andre began working for the Delaware & Hudson Railroad in 1952. Andre commenced his employment with the railroad as a carpenter and painter, installing railroad crossings. In 1956 Andre was promoted to the position of flagman. In 1957 he was promoted to the position of Trainman in the Saratoga Champlain Division. He retired in 1976 with 25 years of service.
His favorite sports teams were the NY Yankees and NY Giants.
Survived by his only son, Michael A Verreau Sr (Joyce P McAlister Esq.); grandson Michael Verreau Jr; great granddaughter Emily Stillman (Tyler), host of friends and family including Lloyd Leany, Mary Leany O’Neal and D’Anne Nelson.
After nearly 29 years, Andre reconnected with his son. He loved going to Italian Restaurants (Lombardo’s and Valente’s) with Michael and Joyce on birthdays, holidays and other special occasions for a great Italian meal.
